The 'Yogi' Cleanse with the Juicist

Thursday, 20 November 2014

I recently done a one day juice cleanse with The Juicist. We had just had the craziest week from moving house and I hadn’t been treating my body well at all. I wanted a bit of a pick me up as well as a detox at the same time so I thought a juice cleanse would be a good way to help me get back on track as well as help prepare my body for my upcoming 12 week challenge (more on that later!).

So, I ordered the cleanse online which I just loved. Of course you can go ahead and make your own juices at home – but this worked really well for me. Call me lazy, but between moving houses, packing and unpacking – I just couldn’t be bothered finding the time or means to shop for ingredients and prepare my own juice. Plus, if you’re like me and you don’t own a cold press, but still want the goodness of cold pressed juice – then this is the go! The cleanse also gets delivered to your door so its super convenient as well.
I prepared my body a few days ahead by trying to drink as much water as possible, cutting out meat as well as I could and trying to stick to plant based food. It was not fun at all haha but I needed to do that so that the juice cleanse wouldn’t be a big shock to the system! (plus you get sent instructions telling you what to do etc).

My cleanse came with 6x 375ml juices and 1 bottle of kombucha.

I absolutely loved it. Although, there was one flavour in there that I had to force myself to drink but I was expecting that in a way. I loved every other flavour and the kombucha was lovely to sip thru the next day. I didn’t feel hungry, tired or deprived at all – I actually felt amazing. I don’t know how I would go for longer than a day though, but this was a great cleanse to begin with. It didn’t feel harsh on the body at all and its such a nice way to give the body a ‘break’ and load it with good nutrients. Looking forward to trying a longer cleanse next time!

Note: If you would like to order a cold pressed juice cleanse you will need to find one local to you. These juices last in the fridge for approx 2 days. My cleanse was delivered by 7am Wednesday morning so that I could start my juice cleanse straight away and get the most out of the freshly pressed juice.

New In: Nars, Mac & Stila

Friday, 7 November 2014

It was my 24th birthday not long ago, so I celebrated by grabbing a few goodies (as you do right?). I stopped in at Mecca Cosmetica as well as the Mac Counter and this is what I picked up.

Lips: I had to visit the MAC counter so many times before these colours were in stock. I picked up Velvet teddy and Sin and am in love with both of them.
Velvet teddy is a beautiful deep nude (Hey Kylie). Sin is a deep vampy, very sexy burgundy blue/red which I find suits most skin tones, its beautiful.

1. no lipstick 2. velvet teddy 3. sin (sorry for the terrible photo!)

Now, onto the face:

Stila One Step Correct

This has quickly become another holygrail for me, Im in love. With primers I’ve used in the past, I haven’t always been able to see a noticeable difference to the skin. This product though, OH MY GOSH! it actually does what it says it does – corrects the skin tone and brightens the face. Its made up of three different colours that each play their part:

green: minimise redness

lavender: counteracts sallow undertones

peach: brightens, illuminates and helps diminish the appearance of sun spots

I saw an instant change in my skin the first time I tried this product (at the Mecca counter) and can’t get enough. Ive found that it just instantly makes my skin look alive and radiant. I also like to use this on my skin alone when I don't want to wear makeup. Its a helix serum, so is super hydrating for the skin.

Nars Sheer Glow in Punjab

SERIOUSLY! I can’t get over this foundation, It has become my holygrail. Its lite on the skin, med-full coverage and I don’t think Ive found a foundation that has matched my skin colour so well. I am in love! Plus the fact that Nars doesn’t test their products on animals definitely won me over.

What are you're holy grails?

I hope you are all having a lovely weekend!

Clean Blueberry, Cinnamon and Pecan Scrolls (Thermomix)

Thursday, 6 November 2014

Im not even going to go into detail. YOU NEED TO MAKE THESE NOW! This has got to be whole foods at its finest lol. I freakin love cinnamon scrolls, but they usually contain a heap of butter, brown sugar and a glaze made with cream cheese (well…the ones I like lol).

I saw this recipe by Jo from Quirky Cooking and thought I would try it out. To be honest I wasn’t expecting these to taste SO DANG GOOD as I have the craziest sweet tooth, but they are DELISH! (Can you tell how excited I am with all the capitals).

You can easily replace the fresh blueberries with any fresh berries. I love raspberries with this dough #Heaven

I was way too slow getting a good picture of these (sorry for the terrible lighting!)

This recipe looks like there is a lot of work and ingredients involved but its super quick in the thermomix. If there are a few ingredients listed that you haven’t heard of before, check out your local health food store or they could even be down the health foods aisle at your local supermarket.

INGREDIENTS:

BRIOCHE DOUGH:
300g rice almond milk (I just used rice milk and it was great)
30g coconut sugar or rapadura sugar
2 tsp dried instant yeast
1 tsp pink himalayan salt
80g macadamia oil
660g white unbleached spelt flour
1 egg

SCROLL FILLING:
120g Rapadura sugar
120g raw pecans
2 tsp ground cinnamon
pinch pink himalayan salt
100g coconut cream
130g fresh blueberries

GLAZE:
50g 100% pure maple syrup
50g coconut cream
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

METHOD:

TO MAKE THE DOUGH:

Place milk and sugar into mixing bowl and warm for 2 MIN/37C/SPEED 1
Add all remaining ingredients and mix 5 SEC/SPEED 5, then knead 2 MIN/INTERVAL SPEED
Remove dough from bowl and wrap in ThermoMat or place into an oiled bowl and cover with a kitchen towel.
Allow to prove for 20 minutes or until doubled in size, in a warm spot.

PREPARE THE SCROLLS:

Preheat the oven to 170c. Grease and line a 26cm springform cake tin with baking paper and set aside.
Place sugar, pecans, cinnamon and salt into mixing bowl and mix 5 SEC/SPEED 5. Transfer into a bowl and set aside.
Flour a ThermoMat or work surface and rolling pin and roll out dough into a rectangle (about 30cm x 40cm – 1cm thick)
Spread half of the coconut cream over the dough and sprinkle with the reserved pecan mix. Top with blueberries.
Roll the dough into a log and cut into slices (about 4cm thick).
Lay the scrolls in the cake tin and drizzle with the remaining coconut cream. Cover with a kitchen towel and leave to prove for 30 minutes or until nearly doubled in size.
Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown. The dough should not be sticky.

GLAZE:

Place all ingredients into mixing bowl and cook 2 MIN/100C/SPEED 1
Drizzle warm scrolls with glaze.

Thanks Jo for this awesome recipe!

Twentyfourteen

Tuesday, 4 November 2014

We had such a nice family day out celebrating my 24th birthday. As much as I love clothes, makeup, homewares - all these material things, absolutely nothing beats quality time with my family. They mean the world to me!

Yes...even when my adorable kids decide to roll on the ground, kick and scream and cry their little hearts out!

We had ice - creams, walked around the harbour and went on the sky wheel then ended the day with a drop of retail therapy haha. It was perfect.

I love to make little goals for myself around my birthday (cliche, yes - but hey). Here are a few pretty planners that help to get me motivated!
