Choc Protein Balls X Food Inc.

Monday, 4 May 2015

Last night Jeremy and I watched the documentary 'Food Inc' and after seeing what goes into some of our food, I was like 'Chiiiiiild, I need to eat something gooood'.

Seriously - you need to watch it! It reminded me how important it is to take the time to know whats going into our food, where it comes from and how its made. After all, food is what fuels our bodies!

I decided to make some protein balls to you know, make me feel a little less guilty (as I was wanting to reach for a chocolate bar). These are perfect for when that sweet tooth needs a fix and when you feel like you need a little boost.I love using Thriving Protein as its not only raw but its an organic whole food protein thats corn free, has no GMOs, is dairy free, vegan, includes bio-fermented living ingredients aaaand what I love most - its kid friendly.

If theres anything you can take away from this little post - its what I learnt most from the doco:

1. Buy Local whenever you can
2. Buy Organic whenever you can
3. Read the labels on your food

INGREDIENTS

1 cup almonds
1 scoop protein powder
1/4 - 1/2 cup 100% pure maple syrup (to taste)
1 tbsp coconut oil
2 tbsp cacao powder
1 tbsp nut butter
1/4 cup chopped dark chocolate (totally optional)
pinch pink himalayan salt
Toppings: Coconut, chia seeds, hemp seeds, cacao, goji berries, chopped nuts - options are endless

METHOD

Add almonds to food processor and blend until you get a fine meal.
Add the rest of the ingredients to the processor and blend until well mixed.
Roll tablespoons of the mixture into small balls and set aside.
You can either leave them plain or roll in different toppings.
Once completed, store in a plastic container with an air tight lid. Leave them in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
